George Moghalu, a former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has emerged as the Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming November 8, 2025 election in Anambra State.
Moghalu, who previously served as the National Auditor for the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured the LP ticket with a commanding 575 delegate votes during the party’s primary election held on Saturday at Finotel Hotel in Awka, the state capital.
Although his only rival in the race, John Nwosu, officially withdrew from the contest approximately eight hours before voting commenced, he still received 19 votes from the delegates.
In a parallel development, the incumbent Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has been confirmed as the gubernatorial flag-bearer of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Soludo, who is seeking re-election, was returned unopposed through a unanimous affirmation by party delegates during a primary held at the Alex Ekwueme Square, also in Awka.
The party’s returning officer, Uche Nwegbo, while announcing the outcome, disclosed that out of the 3,260 total delegates expected, 3,175 were accredited. A total of 3,172 valid votes were cast, with four votes declared invalid.
Governor Soludo garnered 3,168 affirmative votes, with no opposing votes recorded.
“By the powers vested in me as the chief returning officer for this primary election and in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines, I hereby declare Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo as the duly nominated candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election,” Nwegbo announced.
As the November election draws closer, the political atmosphere in Anambra continues to gain momentum, setting the stage for a contest likely to feature prominent figures and strong political parties.
