The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has rescinded a previous directive summoning the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to Abuja for questioning.
In a new development, the IGP has instructed the Kano State Police Command to obtain the Emir’s statement locally in connection with the incident under investigation.
This decision was conveyed through a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi. According to the release, the reversal was made in light of the sensitivities surrounding the matter and the involvement of influential national figures.
While details of the specific incident prompting the invitation remain undisclosed, the police emphasized the need to handle the situation with caution and respect for traditional institutions. The move is seen as an attempt to de-escalate tensions and preserve the dignity of the royal office while ensuring that due process is followed.
