In a shocking development, two young men have been apprehended by the police in Ogun State for allegedly embezzling ₦300 million from their employer, a lifestyle hospitality company and reportedly squandering the money on sports betting.
The suspects, identified as 35-year-old Tomisin and 23-year-old Yaya, were arrested after the incident gained traction on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where users shared details of the case. The Nigerian Police Force has since confirmed the arrests in an official video statement that has gone viral.
According to a police officer who spoke in the clip, the duo committed corporate fraud while entrusted with financial duties at the company where they worked. The officer emphasized the alarming trend of young individuals being lured into destructive gambling habits.
“We want to use this case to address our young people and raise awareness about the dangers of excessive betting,” the officer said. “Tomisin and Yaya were arrested for misappropriating ₦300 million from their place of employment and diverting the funds for gambling purposes.”
