The Federal Government (FG) is preparing to appoint former presidential aide Reno Omokri, ex-governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and former senator Shehu Sani as ambassadors.
Sources close to the presidency have disclosed that these individuals are currently undergoing security screenings by the Department of State Services (DSS), a necessary step before any official appointments can be made.
This move comes nearly a year after Nigeria recalled all of its foreign envoys without immediate replacements, raising concerns about the country’s diplomatic representation and global engagement. According to reports, the résumés of the proposed ambassadors have already been submitted to the relevant authorities, and background checks are now in progress.
A senior government official, who requested anonymity, stated, “Only those who successfully pass the DSS screening will be announced. The process is moving forward, and we anticipate the official list will be made public before the end of this month.”
