The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather alert predicting moderate to heavy rainfall across six states over a three-day period, from Wednesday, April 9 to Friday, April 11, 2025.
According to NiMet’s latest weather bulletin released on Tuesday, residents of Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, and Ogun states should brace for significant rainfall during the forecast period.
In addition, the agency anticipates light to moderate showers in several other states, including Ondo, Lagos, Ekiti, Imo, Abia, and parts of Delta, while most other areas of the country are expected to see either light rain or remain dry over the same timeframe.
NiMet warned that the forecasted downpours could lead to flash floods, especially in flood-prone areas. It also cautioned that strong gusts may accompany the rains, potentially posing a risk to lives and property.
The advisory emphasized several possible hazards, such as slippery roads, poor visibility during heavy showers, and the risk of strong winds toppling weak structures, trees, and telecommunication masts. As a precautionary measure, the public is urged not to drive through floodwaters, as they might conceal strong undercurrents that could sweep vehicles away.
NiMet also advised individuals to unplug electrical appliances before the onset of rain to prevent electrical accidents. Motorists are encouraged to drive with extra caution, and residents in vulnerable areas should stay informed through official weather updates.
