In a significant political development, former Governor of Abia State and current Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, convened a high-level meeting with key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a bid to unify the party’s structure in the state and reaffirm support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
The urgent strategic meeting, held at Kalu’s private residence in Abuja on Friday, brought together several influential leaders of the APC from Abia State. The group collectively resolved to work towards consolidating party unity and reclaiming political power from the Labour Party-led government in the next electoral cycle.
According to reports by Gists9ja, prominent attendees included APC National Welfare Secretary Donatus Nwankpa, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, former Commissioner for Finance Obinna Oriaku, and several other political heavyweights such as Ndukwe Adindu, Sam Ikiri, Mike Nwabara, Anyim Nyerere, Nze Esiaga, Chidi Maduekwe, Ndukwe Maxwell, Nnanna Kalu, and Emeka Atuma.
A Renewed Push for Unity and Federal Alignment
Following the closed-door session, Senator Kalu addressed the media, announcing that the Abia APC had successfully resolved internal grievances and was now functioning as a “united and indivisible family.” He emphasized that this renewed unity was in direct response to President Tinubu’s call during the last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the APC, where party leaders were instructed to reconcile factions and rebuild cohesion in their respective states.
Kalu said, “We are more united now than ever. The President understands our political capacity, and he gave us the mandate to bring everyone to the table. We’re following that directive with full commitment.”
He appealed to the public and grassroots supporters to rally around the party’s unity efforts, noting that aligning with the APC at the federal level would bring significant development benefits to Abia State.
“The people can already see the difference in federal interventions in Abia North. That’s just a glimpse of what the entire state stands to gain when fully aligned with the center,” Kalu added.
Kalu Reaffirms Tinubu’s 2027 Mandate
Kalu confirmed that the meeting formally endorsed President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, describing the APC’s electoral strategy as well-structured and driven by loyal planners who “execute what they design.”
“We are not sleeping. We are reaching out to governors across the South East and beyond. President Tinubu has empowered me to lead these efforts. Come 2027, we will not only support his re-election, but we will also reclaim the Abia governorship seat for the APC,” he said.
Referencing his experience and track record, Kalu stated, “The people know my record as a governor and as a senator. I’ve always been sincere with the people of Abia, and that commitment remains. Whoever emerges under our party from the House of Assembly to the Presidency will be credible and capable.”
APC Eyes Abia Government House in 2027
Speaking at the event, APC National Welfare Secretary Donatus Nwankpa reiterated the party’s resolve to secure the Abia State Government House in the next elections. He said the state’s APC chapter had witnessed a surge in new membership, particularly from former PDP members and other opposition groups.
“We’ve received more than 70% of defectors from the PDP and other parties in the last two years, which reflects the growing acceptance of the APC in Abia,” Nwankpa said. “Our mission to take over the government in 2027 is non-negotiable.”
He urged party leaders both present and absent at the meeting to unite and support the cause, naming key figures like Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, former gubernatorial candidate High Chief Ikechi Emenike, and others as essential to the plan.
Nwankpa issued a stern warning to party members found to be fraternizing with the incumbent Labour Party government led by Governor Alex Otti, stating that the APC would not hesitate to discipline any leader working against the party’s 2027 objective.

The gathering marks a renewed political momentum for the APC in Abia State, as it seeks to rebuild its internal structure, attract wider support, and challenge the Labour Party’s dominance in the state. With Tinubu’s re-election campaign gaining traction and reconciliation efforts now underway, the stage appears set for a fierce political contest in 2027.
