The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an intensive search operation following the theft of a black Toyota Hilux assigned to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), headed by Nuhu Ribadu.
The incident occurred on Friday during the Juma’at prayers in Abuja. According to reports, the vehicle was parked at approximately 1:05 p.m. opposite the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) office in Area 10. The ONSA official who drove the vehicle had gone to observe prayers at a nearby mosque, only to return and find that the Hilux had vanished.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama brought the matter to public attention through a post on X (formerly Twitter), noting that the theft was immediately reported to the Garki Police Division at around 2:00 p.m. The police reportedly responded without delay.
Reacting swiftly, the FCT Police Command launched a city-wide stop-and-search operation, manning key checkpoints and tightening surveillance at all known entry and exit routes into the capital.
A spokesperson for the Command confirmed that a full investigation is currently underway, with a dedicated team working to trace the suspects and recover the stolen vehicle. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm, assuring that all necessary measures are being taken to resolve the case and prevent similar incidents.
The theft of a government vehicle particularly one linked to a high-security office such as the ONSA has raised concerns over public safety and the effectiveness of surveillance around key government zones in Abuja.
