Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has issued a blunt message to Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, urging him to abandon any intention of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nwoko declared that the governor should remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) so he can be defeated in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The senator made these remarks on Saturday while welcoming new members of the APC from the Delta Unity Group (DUG) in the Ika Federal Constituency. The former PDP loyalists officially declared their defection to the ruling party in an event attended by APC National Chairman, Dr. Umar Ganduje.
“Governor Oborevwori is trying to join the APC, but tell him to remain where he is. He will be defeated there. We don’t want him in our party,” Nwoko said. “The President has personally assured me that Delta will be delivered to the APC. Perhaps that’s why the governor is becoming desperate.”
Criticism of PDP’s 25-Year Rule in Delta
Senator Nwoko, who was formerly a member of the PDP himself, did not hold back in his criticism of the party’s leadership in Delta State. He blamed the PDP for what he described as 25 years of failed governance and widespread corruption.
“For over two decades, the PDP has mismanaged the affairs of Delta State. Enough is enough,” he said. “The APC is now the future of Delta, and by 2027, we will take full control of the state.”
Assurance to New Defectors and Party Faithful
Addressing the defectors, Nwoko encouraged them to remain confident and committed, assuring them that they would play a central role in shaping the state’s political future.
“Let no one question your political value,” he said. “You are the future of Delta politics, and the next governor will emerge from among you, within the APC. Go back to your communities and spread the word — Delta State’s next leader will come from our party.”
He also praised the Delta Unity Group for aligning with his political direction, calling their move a bold and strategic step forward.
“We are energized and optimistic,” he said. “A strong political force like the DUG joining APC confirms that we’re on the right path.”
