Kidnappers suspected to be bandits have kidnapped Reverend Father Ibrahim Amos, a catholic priest, in Kaduna State on Thursday.
Reports show that the kidnappers took the parish priest of Saint Gerald Quasi Parish from his residence in Kurmin Risga, Kauru Local Government Area, at 12:15 am.
“With profound sorrow, we write to announce that Rev. Fr. Ibrahim Amos, the Parish Priest of St. Gerald Quasi Parish, Kurmin Risga, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was abducted,” reads a statement from the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan.
This latest abduction incident comes seven weeks after Sylvester Okechukwu, another catholic priest, was kidnapped and killed in the state.
Reverend Father Okechukwu of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Tachiri, Kaura LGA of Kaduna, was kidnapped by armed men on March 4.
His body was found the next day.
Kauru, where Thursday’s incident occurred, and Kaura, the local government area where Okechukwu was kidnapped and killed, are both located in southern Kaduna.
Days after Reverend Father Okechukwu’s death, troops arrested some suspects in connection to the incident.
Fatai Ya’u, one of the suspects, claimed to have been lured by one of Okechukwu’s neighbours named Douglas. He also said he worked with others to facilitate the kidnapping.
He denied being armed like the others who took part in the crime.
“It was Douglas who called me to come so we could kidnap the Reverend Father at their house in Tachira. I was sceptical about it, but Douglas insisted that we should do it. I then visited Yahaya, who pleaded that I shouldn’t do such a thing [kidnap someone],” Ya’u said.
“After I returned home, I kept receiving calls from Douglas asking me to come that he had gotten other people who would also help in carrying out the abduction.”
It remains unclear how Okechukwu died.
