As the rainy season approaches, Fulani leaders under the umbrella of Miyetti Allah Dangol Fulako have held a peace summit in Miri District, Bauchi State, aimed at fostering peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers in the region.
The summit was a proactive step to mitigate potential disputes that typically arise during the farming season, particularly over grazing and farmland boundaries. The gathering featured a special prayer session for unity and harmony and focused heavily on promoting dialogue and mutual respect.
In their addresses, Fulani leaders reiterated their commitment to peace and urged their members to respect the rights of farmers while upholding values of cooperation and tolerance.
District Head of Miri, Abubakar Usman, who spoke at the event, praised the initiative as a thoughtful and timely intervention. He also appealed to local farmers to respect designated cattle routes and avoid planting crops in these areas, warning that such actions are major triggers for conflict.
To ensure impartiality in resolving any disputes, the district head directed all village and hamlet heads under his authority to remain neutral and apply fairness when addressing any tension between herders and farmers.
Participants at the summit expressed hope that continued dialogue and community engagement would help reduce hostilities during the farming season, ushering in a more peaceful and cooperative environment for both parties.
