The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, has suspended two prominent Mogajis (family heads) over serious allegations of land grabbing, abuse of authority, and misconduct that threaten the integrity of traditional leadership in the ancient city.
The affected Mogajis are:
- Kamorudeen Kolawole of the Kukula family, Oke–Ofa Baba Isale, Ibadan North East LGA
- Samsudeen Bello of the Ekerin Ajengbe family, Isale Osi, Ibadan South West LGA
Their suspension was announced on Thursday during a meeting of the Olubadan Land Matters Committee held at the Old Olubadan Palace, Oja Oba, Ibadan.
“You Must Retrace Your Steps” — Olubadan Issues Stern Warning
Speaking through the Otun Olubadan, Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, Oba Olakulehin emphasized that the suspension will remain indefinite until the implicated Mogajis show remorse and correct their wrongdoings.
“You have been warned several times to desist from acts capable of tarnishing the reputation of the Olubadan stool and Ibadanland,” the monarch warned.
Allegations include land grabbing, trespassing, oppression of family members, and forceful acquisition of land in their respective domains.
Traditional Beads Removed, Titles Suspended
As part of the disciplinary action, the symbolic traditional beads worn by the Mogajis have been removed, effectively stripping them of their authority and recognition within Ibadan’s chieftaincy system.
They have been barred from parading themselves as Mogajis until they comply with the conditions set by the Olubadan-in-Council.
Additionally, law enforcement agencies have been instructed to arrest any of the suspended Mogajis found violating the suspension order.
Committee Warns Other Disobedient Chiefs and Baales
The Olubadan further issued a stern warning to other traditional chiefs and Baales who have repeatedly ignored invitations from the palace committee, labeling their actions as gross insubordination that would no longer be tolerated.
