Democracy Day: “You Turned a Decayed Nation into a Nation of Hope” – Akpabio Applauds Tinubu

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for revitalizing Nigeria, stating that the country has shifted from a “decayed nation” to one now brimming with hope and renewed potential.

Akpabio made the remarks on Wednesday during a joint session of the National Assembly held in commemoration of Democracy Day.

He lauded President Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a steadfast advocate for democracy who has now ascended to steer the nation’s course.

Akpabio noted that President Tinubu’s presence at the National Assembly went beyond fulfilling a constitutional duty, describing it as a powerful symbol of the sacrifices and struggles that shaped Nigeria’s democratic journey.

“The National Assembly stands as the stronghold of democracy in any country. Your presence here rekindles memories of a long and courageous journey—marked by struggle, sacrifice, and an unwavering belief in democratic ideals,” he stated.

Referring to Tinubu as “our president, our compatriot, and forever a distinguished Senator,” Akpabio emphasized that the legislature took pride in welcoming a leader who significantly contributed to the shaping of Nigeria’s democratic foundation.

“This chamber honors you not merely as the President of Nigeria, but as one of the key architects of the democratic foundation we uphold today,” he said.

Akpabio further emphasized that Democracy Day is not solely a celebration of political leaders, but a tribute to the Nigerian people who have continually chosen democracy over violence and authoritarianism.

“We gather not to mourn injustice, but to honor resilience.
