A young Nigerian man was apprehended in the early hours of the morning after allegedly attempting to steal the main cable connecting a neighborhood to its transformer.
The incident, which occurred around 2 a.m., was captured in a video shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The footage shows the suspect being confronted by an enraged resident after his actions plunged the entire community into darkness.
According to a local, the suspect entered the area under the cover of night and cut the primary power line supplying electricity to several homes, with the intention of making off with the valuable cable.
In the video, furious residents are heard expressing their anger: “You cut the whole transformer wire say you wan carry am, na you get am? E cut a whole big wire, e wan comot am.
”One resident noted that the situation could have taken a violent turn had the police not been alerted in time.
The video has sparked widespread outrage online, with many users calling for tighter security and better protection of critical electricity infrastructure in residential areas.
