Crisis Rocks Delta North APC Over Endorsement, Counter-Endorsement of Senator Ned Nwoko’s Second Term Bid.
The leadership crisis within the Delta North APC has deepened following a clash between former Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and current Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents the senatorial district.
Tensions escalated during a widely attended APC stakeholders’ meeting held last Saturday at Senator Nwoko’s residence in Idumuje-Ugboko. At the gathering, party members loyal to Nwoko unanimously passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and Senator Nwoko himself.
However, the “Forum of Delta North APC LGA Chairmen” and the “Forum of APC Ward Chairmen” in the senatorial district—both reportedly aligned with Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa—disowned the endorsement of Senator Ned Nwoko.
In response, the APC Chairman for Delta North Senatorial District, Ogbueishi Adizue Eluaka, criticized what he described as an unauthorized publication by the said forums aimed at undermining the endorsement. He went further to dissolve all party forums operating within the senatorial district, calling the move necessary to maintain party discipline and unity.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Eluaka labeled the group as an “unauthorized and unconstitutional entity,” emphasizing that its actions do not represent the collective will or organizational structure of the APC in Delta North.
He affirmed that the party would no longer acknowledge any group or forum that is not explicitly recognized by its constitution.
“We will not sit back and allow a handful of disgruntled, sponsored individuals—operating under the guise of a forum that has no recognition in our party’s constitution—to sow disunity and disaffection within our ranks,” Eluaka declared. “The APC represents a platform for growth, and these actions are clearly driven by self-interest.”
To restore order and unity within the party, Eluaka announced that going forward, all party matters would be handled directly with LGA and ward chairmen on an individual basis.
He issued a stern warning that any meeting organized by the now-dissolved forums or any unauthorized group would be considered illegal and could attract disciplinary measures.
