
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of two individuals and the abduction of two others in what is believed to be a cult-related clash in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement released in Awka and shared with journalists on Friday.
According to Ikenga, the suspected “daredevil cultists” began firing indiscriminately around 8:40 p.m. on Thursday at Total Junction and Tipper Junction in Oko.
He stated that the Joint Security Force (JSF), which includes the Police, Army, Navy, Civil Defence, and local Vigilante groups, has taken control of the area.
The Police PRO further noted that the joint security team successfully rescued two individuals, including a woman who is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
He added that the police operation, led by the Aguata Area Commander, was reinforced by the JSF to ensure stability and restore order.
He further disclosed that, according to an eyewitness, the armed attackers used a motorcycle and a black Lexus 350 SUV without a license plate during the operation.
The statement added that the command has called for calm, assuring the public that security operatives are following up on leads from the scene and utilizing eyewitness accounts to track down and apprehend the suspects.
