Troops Thwart ISWAP Assault on Gwoza During Intense Rainstorm

Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a coordinated assault by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on Gwoza town in Borno State.

The attack took place on Friday afternoon amid a heavy rainstorm, which the insurgents exploited as cover to advance into Gwoza from the Izge–Pridang–Baikee axis and the Mandara Mountains.Their objective was to strike key strategic locations within the town.

However, the alertness of the troops led to a swift response, resulting in a fierce gunfight that forced the insurgents to retreat after incurring heavy casualties.

According to security sources who spoke with Zagazola Makama, the assault may have been a reprisal for recent airstrikes under Operation KALACHEN WUTA, which eliminated several ISWAP fighters and reportedly injured a senior commander, Abou Moussad Albarnawi.
