A group known as Mandate4 has urged Nigerian political leaders to set aside political interests and place greater emphasis on safeguarding the lives and security of all citizens.
The group also called for immediate and coordinated government intervention to address the escalating violence in Benue State and other parts of the country, which has led to the loss of innocent lives, the destruction of communities, and the displacement of thousands.
The nation-building non-profit organisation noted that the crisis reflects significant lapses in security coordination, leaving communities vulnerable and perpetrators unchecked.
In a statement issued by its Founder, Century Favour, the organisation urged federal, state, and local governments to move beyond offering condolences and take decisive action to safeguard lives and restore hope to affected communities.
“The ongoing and widespread attacks in Benue reflect a troubling collapse in security coordination and response mechanisms. This cannot be allowed to continue,” Favour stated.The organisation presented four major demands: enhance collaboration among security and intelligence agencies, provide immediate emergency assistance, facilitate inclusive community dialogue, and ensure compensation and rehabilitation for victims.
“Protecting vulnerable communities must be a top priority. Prompt action is essential to prevent further loss of life,” Favour emphasized.
He also appealed for immediate humanitarian assistance — including the provision of food, shelter, medical care, and trauma counselling — to support displaced families.
For sustainable peace, Favour advocated for the active involvement of local leaders, religious bodies, civil society organisations, and conflict resolution experts in addressing the root causes of the violence and fostering community healing.
