A retired superintendent of the Nigerian Police Force has expressed deep frustration after learning that his pension entitlement amounts to only ₦2 million, despite dedicating 35 years of service to the nation.
The emotional account was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user identified as @ChuksEricE, who posted a video
“I retired from the Nigerian Police on October 1, 2023, and since then, I haven’t received any payment,” the officer lamented in the video. “Just two weeks ago, I was contacted and informed that I would be paid ₦3 million. When I asked what the money was for, they said it was my pension.
“He went on to clarify that out of the ₦3 million, ₦1 million was for arrears accrued since his retirement, while ₦2 million was said to be his full pension entitlement.
“That ₦3 million isn’t the full pension. ₦1 million is the arrears from when I retired till now, and ₦2 million is my total entitlement,” he added.
“I can’t dedicate 35 years of my life to serving this country and end up with just ₦2 million. God forbid,” he said.
The video has gone viral, sparking widespread outrage among Nigerians online. Many have flooded the comment section to condemn the poor treatment of retired officers, urging the federal government and the Inspector General of Police to launch an immediate investigation and take necessary action.
