Former Big Brother Naija star and entrepreneur Uriel Oputa has spoken out against the age-shaming of women.
In a recent Instagram post, Uriel criticized Nigerian men who mock women for getting older, questioning why something as natural as ageing is used as a form of insult.
She stressed that growing older is a privilege, adding that she would much rather age gracefully than die young.
She said, “This message is specifically directed at Nigerian men. It is an insult to God to shame a woman based on her age. I posted a video, and instead of grasping the valuable lesson it aimed to share, some of you focused solely on saying, ‘Oh, you’re getting older.’ That shows a lack of understanding you missed the message entirely because you couldn’t process the content in a way that could improve your life.
Think twice before mocking a woman for ageing. Growing older gracefully and beautifully is not something to be insulted it’s a blessing.“
There’s absolutely no shame in aging—it’s a privilege,” she said. “I would rather grow old than be buried six feet under with a heart full of regrets. There are people who have all the wealth in the world but would give anything for just one more day to live. Don’t ridicule what you don’t understand; one day, life will teach you that lesson.
”The video has since drawn widespread praise online, with fans applauding her confidence and her strong stance against societal expectations.
