In a statement issued on Monday morning, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Edet Udeme, revealed that the incident involved a Hummer bus with registration number 14B-143BN, which was discovered abandoned by the roadside in Ugbokolo, Okpokwu Local Government Area.
“Following the distress call, police tactical teams, in collaboration with the military and the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, quickly mobilised to the scene,” Udeme stated.
While combing the surrounding forest, the security team rescued one of the victims, identified as Paul Terns, who had managed to escape from the abductors.
The PPRO assured that additional reinforcements have been deployed to the area to intensify efforts in locating the remaining passengers and securing their safe release.
The Police Command also called on the public to remain calm and cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.
