Oyo: Petrol Tanker Overturns and Explodes in Iseyin

A tanker transporting 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) overturned and somersaulted in Iseyin, Oyo State.

The incident took place on Monday morning at NICO Farm, along the Iseyin/Oyo Road in Iseyin.

Reports indicate that the tanker, bearing registration number LM62XP (Lagos), lost control while in motion, somersaulted into a nearby ditch, and burst into flames.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident.

In a statement released to DAILY POST on Monday, Akinwande noted that the agency received a report of the incident earlier that morning.

He added that fire service personnel were promptly deployed to the scene as soon as they were notified.

In the statement, Akinwande said, “The fire incident was reported at exactly 10:46 a.m. on Monday, 23rd June, 2025.

Upon receiving the address, our firemen, led by PFS1 Azeez, were swiftly deployed to the scene. On arrival, it was confirmed that a trailer tanker with registration number LM62XP (Lagos), carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), had lost control while in motion, somersaulted into a nearby ditch, and caught fire.”

The firemen promptly sprang into action, using chemical foam compound to prevent an explosion and successfully contained the fire, ensuring it did not spread to any nearby structures or vehicles.

The fire was fully extinguished, and normal vehicular movement was restored along the road.”
