A Nigerian model has recounted a terrifying encounter with a notorious scammer in Abuja who allegedly targets unsuspecting models with fake job offers, only to rob them of their phones.
The story came to light through a series of TikTok posts, where the model detailed how she nearly became a victim of a well-known con artist, also sharing a photo of him as proof.
She explained that the scammer is notorious for posing as a modeling agent, contacting potential targets using phones stolen from earlier victims.
A Nigerian model has recounted a harrowing experience with a notorious scammer operating in Abuja, who allegedly targets unsuspecting models with fake job offers and robs them.
She revealed that the ordeal began when a friend told her about a supposed modeling opportunity. She agreed to participate and was soon contacted on WhatsApp by a stranger who requested her Polaroid photos, claiming that his “boss” would get in touch.
Eventually, she was connected with the so-called boss and met him at a studio, where he acted as though he was well-acquainted with the receptionist. After building her trust, he invited her for what turned out to be a fake modeling job—only to rob her and flee the scene.
He later took her to a makeup artist, claiming that another model would be joining them soon. While the artist began working on her makeup, the man remained present throughout the session.
Afterward, he led her to a nearby location for the supposed photoshoot. However, shortly after they arrived, he disappeared without a trace.
“While we were taking pictures, the makeup artist suddenly started looking around for him,” the model recounted. “She asked me where he went, and I said I didn’t know. That’s when she told me he hadn’t paid her.”
She attempted to call him, but his number was unreachable. Realizing she had been scammed, the makeup artist contacted the police.
Two armed officers soon arrived at the scene and briefly detained the model until she was able to explain the full situation.
According to her, the scammer has been using the same method repeatedly—stealing phones from one victim and then using their contacts to deceive and lure in new targets.
“This is what this particular person has been doing, and he keeps getting away with it,” she said.
