Ohanaeze emphasized the urgent need for immediate and effective measures to tackle the critical challenges facing Nigerians.
The pan-Igbo organization stressed that it is crucial to alert President Tinubu that citizens are not only burdened by worsening conditions but are also reaching a breaking point—potentially leading to a backlash at the polls in the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the factional Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze urged the All Progressives Congress, APC, Federal Government to confront the stark realities which it said have reached intolerable levels.
According to the group, the detrimental impacts of these crises will hinder the ability of all 36 state governors to secure reelection for Tinubu.
The statement said, “Many of these Governors are peddling falsehoods and illusions of support, operating under the delusion that they can deliver their states for the APC in the upcoming elections—a perilous naiveté.
However, it is the astute Northern Governors who may present a more duplicitous challenge.They are adeptly playing a game that could ultimately undercut President Tinubu’s ambitions, and it is this faction that he must address most urgently.
”Ohanaeze urged Tinubu to seize the historical opportunity to restore faith in his administration before it is irrevocably lost, adding that revolutionary policies are needed to win back the trust of Nigerians.
“A moment of stark clarity is necessary: the current alignment with these Governors, who perpetuate the country’s economic and security tribulations, must be reconsidered.
“We also emphasize that the expected gains from the removal of fuel subsidy—which led to significantly higher federal allocations to states—have not translated into tangible benefits for the people,” the statement continued.
“Moreover, the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of local government autonomy is being disregarded by these same governors, depriving citizens of much-needed grassroots development and relief.
“Without a major shift in leadership approach and policy implementation, the newly introduced tax reforms risk facing the same obstruction and failure.”
President Tinubu must prioritize the eradication of hunger, poverty, and insecurity if he harbors any hope of campaigning effectively for reelection in 2027. The false narratives being spun by the 36 State Governors mask the reality of the ongoing crisis that the populace faces.
“Nigerians are grappling with soaring costs of living, with prices of essential goods and services becoming increasingly untenable.
“These issues represent formidable obstacles to any campaign aimed at securing a second term.
Furthermore, it is important to frankly inform President Tinubu that Northern Governors may ultimately distance themselves from him in the 2027 elections, choosing instead to align with their constituents who feel marginalized by his administration.
Southern Governors, likewise, are expected to be divided—caught between forging new alliances with former political adversaries and attempting to capitalize on President Tinubu’s influence for their own political survival.
Let it be stated clearly and without bias that the current path is untenable. Urgent action is required to address these pressing crises, as failure to respond will ultimately render any political ambitions meaningless
Consequently, it will be an unyielding challenge for these Governors to rally support for President Tinubu in their respective states. The time has come for decisive action: lowering electricity tariffs, reconstituting economic teams, eliminating waste, and investing robustly in agriculture and infrastructure.
