The Lagos State Government has refuted allegations by Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who claimed that a property owned by his brother was unlawfully demolished by the state.
In a detailed post on X (formerly Twitter), Obi condemned the demolition, accusing the Lagos State Government of unjustly targeting his family without following due process or providing any legal justification.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Lagos State Government dismissed the demolition claim as false, asserting that none of its agencies, including the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), were involved.
Responding promptly, the government declared:
“We wish to categorically state that the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) or any other arm of the Lagos State Government did not carry out the said demolition.
”The statement, signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, also noted that Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, the supervising official of LASBCA, confirmed the agency had no connection to the reported incident.
The government described Obi’s allegations as “disturbing” and “baseless,” reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law, urban safety, and the protection of all residents. It also cautioned against spreading misinformation and engaging in unlawful behavior.
To uncover the truth, the state has instructed the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, to launch a comprehensive investigation through LASBCA.
“This investigation will shed light on the circumstances surrounding the alleged demolition and ensure that appropriate steps are taken,” the statement concluded.
The government reaffirmed its welcoming stance toward all Nigerians and emphasized its commitment to maintaining Lagos as a secure and law-abiding environment for both residents and investors.
