Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Livestock Reforms, Prof. Attahiru Jega, has voiced confidence in the president’s ability to resolve Nigeria’s prolonged farmers-herders conflict, provided the appropriate reforms are carried out with the backing of key stakeholders.
Jega made this remark during a distinguished personality lecture themed “The Political Economy of Livestock Development in Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects” at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State, on Monday.
The lecture, held in honour of Senator Saliu Mustapha, was part of events marking the university’s 50th anniversary celebration.
The former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, attributed the rising clashes between farmers and herders to growing land pressure, climate change, and inadequate governance of natural resources—challenges he said must be addressed through comprehensive livestock sector reforms.
“President Tinubu has shown both the willingness and capacity to resolve this crisis,” Jega stated. “What is now required is the support of key stakeholders, including the National Assembly, security agencies, and state actors, to implement reforms grounded in evidence.”
