Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been found guilty on two counts of transporting individuals for prostitution in a high-profile federal trial.
However, the jury found him not guilty of racketeering and both sex trafficking charges, thereby saving him from the possibility of a life sentence.After beginning deliberations on Monday, the jury delivered verdicts on four of the five charges by Tuesday.
The final verdict — on the racketeering charge — was delivered early Wednesday morning, with the jury finding Combs not guilty.
Combs appeared in court with his family, who showed visible emotion as the verdict was read aloud.
Although he was acquitted of the most serious charges, the guilty verdicts still carry significant consequences. Each count of transportation for prostitution carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. If the judge imposes consecutive sentences, Combs could face up to 20 years behind bars.
However, the court may decide to allow the sentences to run concurrently.
Defense attorneys are advocating for Combs’ immediate release pending sentencing a request the prosecution strongly opposes.
The judge is expected to issue a decision after reviewing formal arguments from both sides.
Following the verdict, Combs turned to the courtroom gallery and clapped, prompting applause from his supporters.
A sentencing date has not yet been announced.
