Funeral arrangements have been announced for the late Evangelist Mrs. Rosemary Oromoni, mother of the late Sylvester Oromoni Jr., the Dowen College student who died under controversial circumstances in 2021.
Mrs. Oromoni passed away in November 2024, three years after her son’s tragic death.
Her passing was reportedly due to complications from depression and high blood pressure, brought on by the emotional toll of her son’s loss and the prolonged legal battle that followed.
Her son, Sylvester Jr., became a national figure following his death, which ignited widespread public outrage.According to his family, he was assaulted and forced to ingest a harmful substance by senior students at Dowen College.
However, the school denied these allegations, claiming his injuries were the result of a football accident.The case was further complicated by conflicting autopsy reports.
A later ruling by a Lagos coroner concluded that Sylvester died from sepsis, leading to the eventual clearance of the accused students and no criminal charges being filed.
Unhappy with the coroner’s verdict, the Oromoni family postponed Sylvester’s burial for more than two years.
He was eventually laid to rest in Warri in January 2024. Tragically, just months after the burial, Mrs. Rosemary Oromoni also passed away.
Her funeral has now been scheduled to take place on August 9, 2025, at the family compound in Warri.
