A law graduate has shared a troubling incident that unfolded in a hospital after a man refused to sign a consent form for his pregnant wife to undergo a cesarean section (C-section), despite medical urgency.
According to the graduate, identified as Didi Johnson, the situation escalated when it became clear that the woman could not deliver naturally.
Despite pleas from Didi and the woman’s sister, the man insisted that his wife must give birth the natural way.As the woman grew weaker in the theatre, and time became critical, her family was forced to call in elders, who eventually arrived and signed the form on her behalf—allowing the doctors to proceed with the life-saving procedure.
Didi described the man’s actions as unreasonable and alarming, saying, “I saw Nollywood first hand today.” The incident has sparked conversations online about medical consent, spousal authority, and maternal health rights.
She explained that the situation became so critical that the woman’s family had to reach out to their elders, who eventually stepped in and signed the consent form on her behalf.
Sharing the ordeal on social media, Didi Johnson wrote:
“I spent half of my day today begging a husband to sign a consent form for his wife to undergo surgery for child delivery. Oga said NO. I witnessed a Nollywood scene in real life today.
”Addressing those questioning why the woman didn’t sign for herself, she clarified:“She was already in the theatre, too weak to push. When they brought the consent form, oga started causing a scene. The woman was exhausted.
We pleaded with him. Even the woman’s younger sister was shocked, thinking he was joking—until she saw how serious he was.
She called their family elders, who eventually arrived and signed the form. I don’t know how best to describe this man, but one thing is clear—he’s not in his right mind.”
