Jack Dorsey Unveils Internet-Free Messaging App

Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter and CEO of Block, has unveiled Bitchat — a messaging app designed to function without an internet connection.

Bitchat uses Bluetooth Low Energy mesh networks to enable secure, peer-to-peer encrypted messaging between nearby devices.

A standout feature of the app is its ability to function completely offline, making it especially valuable in regions with poor or no internet access.

In addition, all messages are end-to-end encrypted, stored only on local devices, and automatically erased after a short time — reinforcing user privacy and data security.

The app allows devices to create local Bluetooth clusters, relaying messages through nearby users as they move, thereby extending communication beyond typical Bluetooth range.

Moreover, messages intended for offline users are automatically delivered once they reconnect.
