Police operatives in Anambra State have recovered an abandoned AK-47 rifle from a residential apartment undergoing renovation at Ihuowele Ngo Village, Igboukwu, in Aguata Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development on Friday, stating that the recovery was made following a tip-off from concerned residents.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the weapon may belong to an individual identified as Samson, described as a notorious figure and former occupant of the apartment.
According to Ikenga, the suspect, Samson, has not been seen in the area since June 2024, and efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend him.
He stated, “The Anambra State Police Command, acting on credible information provided by concerned residents, recovered an abandoned AK-47 rifle on July 11, 2025, at about 12:30 p.m. The weapon was found inside a residential apartment currently under renovation at Ihuowele Ngo Village, Igboukwu, in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.”
“Preliminary investigations revealed that a man identified as Samson, allegedly known for his notoriety and a former occupant of the apartment, may be connected to the recovered weapon,” the statement added.
“Samson has not been seen in the area since June 2024, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend him.
”The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the community for their vigilance and emphasized the importance of strong collaboration between the Police and the public.
He urged residents of Anambra, saying, “Ndi Anambra should continue to provide timely and actionable information to support the Police in fulfilling its duty of safeguarding lives and property.”
