A faction within the Labour Party has doubled down on its stance against the party’s National Chairman, Barr. Julius Abure, insisting that he remains suspended and holds no legitimate authority or standing in the party.
In a strongly worded statement issued by Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Acting National Chairman, the group accused Abure of dereliction of duty, betrayal of party values, and covert alliances with political adversaries.
“He went completely missing at critical times when the party required leadership, unity, vision, and strategic grassroots mobilization,” the statement noted.
According to the faction, Abure’s absence during key political activities, including local and state elections, as well as his recent public association with opposition figures—most notably Nyesom Wike—further confirms his disconnect from the party’s ideals.
“His dereliction of duty, compounded by his ongoing fraternization with political adversaries of the New Nigeria vision, earned him suspension from the party,” Asogwa stated.
“His constant romance with these outside forces raises a fundamental question: Whose agenda is Julius Abure truly serving?”The group warned against allowing the Labour Party to be hijacked by “crooked individuals” who are more interested in personal gain than in the collective vision of building a just, progressive, and people-driven Nigeria.
“This party belongs to the Nigerian people. It will not be hijacked by those who betray its mission while others continue to make sacrifices for a better, fairer, and more just Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
The faction also reiterated its commitment to rescuing and rebuilding the Labour Party, calling on all loyal members and supporters to remain vigilant and united in defending the party’s core values.
This development marks another chapter in the internal power struggle that has plagued the Labour Party since its significant rise to prominence during the 2023 general elections, where it became a major political force under the leadership of Peter Obi.
