President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered that all national flags be flown at half-staff for seven days in honour of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London at the age of 82.
The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, who confirmed Buhari’s death and conveyed President Tinubu’s heartfelt tribute to the late leader.
In an official statement, Tinubu described Buhari as:
“A patriot, a soldier, a statesman”“His life was marked by service, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to the Nigerian nation.”The president emphasized the former leader’s enduring impact on national development and unity.
“As a mark of respect to our former leader, I have directed that all national flags fly at half‑staff across the country for seven days from today,” the statement read.
In addition, President Tinubu has summoned an emergency Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting scheduled for Tuesday, dedicated to paying tribute to Buhari and reflecting on his legacy.
