The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed that troops of Operation Safe Haven rejected a ₦13.7 million bribe offered by two terror suspects during an anti-terror operation along the Jos–Sanga Road in Plateau State.
Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday in Abuja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, said the troops had responded to a distress call on July 9 when they intercepted a vehicle riddled with bullet holes.
Upon searching the vehicle, two terrorists were found attempting to bribe the soldiers with cash.
“Troops arrested two suspects, recovered weapons, ammunition, a vehicle and the sum of ₦13.7 million from them. The suspects attempted to induce troops with monetary gratification, which they declined,” Kangye said.
The military has taken custody of the vehicle and recovered items as investigations continue.In addition to the Jos–Sanga operation, Kangye also disclosed that troops conducted offensive operations and responded to distress calls in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, South Wase, Riyom, and Jos East LGAs of Plateau State, as well as Kaura and Sanga LGAs in Kaduna State.

Maj.-Gen. Kangye praised the troops for their bravery, discipline, and professionalism, particularly in rejecting the bribe and arresting the suspects.
“As the Nigerian military intensifies efforts to conclude these operations, I urge the public to continue cooperating with security agencies, remain vigilant, and report any suspicious activities,” he urged.
He stressed the need for ongoing public and media support to achieve lasting success in the country’s counter-terrorism campaign and promised continued transparency from the military.
