Adekunle Gold Slams Wema Bank for Allegedly Hijacking His First-Class Giveaway Concept

Nigerian music star Adekunle Gold, popularly known as AG Baby, has voiced his displeasure after a prominent Nigerian bank allegedly used his trending ‘first-class giveaway’ initiative in a marketing campaign without his consent.

The singer had earlier launched a giveaway to celebrate and financially reward graduates who attained first-class honours, commending their academic achievements. However, the bank appeared to leverage the viral nature of his initiative for their own promotion.

In a message sent to customers, the bank wrote:

“AG Baby no send you first class gift? No worries, ALAT’s got you covered. Enjoy up to 70% off your favorite brands this weekend via eVouchers on the ALAT app – it’s no crime to not have a first-class degree.”

Reacting to the ad, Adekunle Gold called out Wema Bank and its digital banking platform, ALAT, questioning their use of his concept. He warned that his legal team would be reaching out.

He posted:

“Dear @wemabank @alat_ng, when did this start? You’ll be hearing from my people.”
