Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the current Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, is reportedly being considered for appointment as the Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Barring any last-minute changes, Yilwatda is expected to assume the position during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday in Abuja.
This follows the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje on June 27 as APC National Chairman. In the interim, the party appointed Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, to serve in acting capacity.According to The Whistler, beyond Yilwatda’s likely appointment, the NEC meeting will also address critical internal issues affecting party unity and stability.
Yilwatda, born on August 8, 1968, is a seasoned academic, engineer, and politician from Plateau State. He was appointed minister in October 2024 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and was the APC’s governorship candidate in Plateau State during the 2023 general elections.
From July 2017 to December 2021, he served as the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue State. He also worked for 12 years as Director of ICT at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
During the 2023 general elections, Yilwatda coordinated the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Organization in Plateau State and has maintained a strong political alliance with former Plateau Governor, Simon Lalong.
Following Lalong’s emergence as Senator representing Plateau South, the ministerial slot for the state became vacant, prompting various political stakeholders to rally behind Yilwatda as a suitable replacement.
After losing the 2023 governorship election in Plateau State to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Yilwatda legally contested the outcome. However, when the Supreme Court upheld the PDP’s victory, he accepted the ruling with grace.
