President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a swipe at the African Democratic Congress (ADC), branding it a “coalition of confusion” during the 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Abuja.
Speaking to party stakeholders, Tinubu described the recent defections from opposition parties, including the ADC, as a welcome development, saying, “It’s not a bad idea to abandon a sinking ship.”
The comment was widely interpreted as a jab at struggling opposition groups amid growing realignments in the political landscape.The president also took time to commend Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past APC National Chairman, for his contributions to the party. He highlighted Ganduje’s role in initiating a progressive institute to deepen the party’s ideological framework.“
I gave him an assignment on the formation of a progressive institute. The National Secretary will work with the chairman to revitalise it, and we can still take him (Ganduje) as a consultant to work with the new chairman,” Tinubu said.
He further announced the postponement of the APC’s Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses to December, citing the need to integrate new members and boost grassroots mobilisation.The NEC meeting came on the heels of the appointment of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, as the new National Chairman of the APC.
He replaces Ganduje, who resigned in June.President Tinubu reiterated the party’s commitment to reforms, inclusion, and national progress, emphasizing that the APC remains open to all Nigerians who share its vision for a better Nigeria.
