The Abia State Government has confirmed that three people sustained injuries when an uncompleted three-storey building collapsed in Umuahia, the state capital.
Addressing journalists after this week’s Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti, Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, revealed that the owner of the collapsed structure has been identified as Chief Ikechi Emenike.
He added that the site engineer in charge of the project has been arrested by the police and is currently assisting with investigations.
“The Commissioner for Health and his team were immediately on ground to administer first aid to the victims before transferring them to the hospital for full treatment,” Kanu stated.
On another note, Kanu announced that the state government is set to begin distribution of agricultural inputs to verified farmers across Abia to enhance food production and support agribusiness.He explained that the distribution would be based on a validated database of genuine farmers to ensure transparency.
Additionally, he revealed plans to establish a large-scale farming initiative modeled after the CSS system.Kanu noted that many of the 300 Abia youths trained in agribusiness in Nasarawa State had effectively utilized funds given to them by the government and will receive additional support to encourage greater output.
However, he disclosed that 26 youths who benefited from the first phase of the empowerment program failed to present themselves for monitoring and cannot account for the funds they received.He assured that the names of those involved, along with the penalties they will face, would be published soon.
