A bizarre and astonishing incident occurred in Bankatwa village, India, where a toddler named Govinda reportedly killed a cobra by biting it, surviving what could have been a fatal encounter.
The dramatic scene unfolded as the three-foot snake slithered near the two-year-old, coiled around his hand, and began to constrict. According to his grandmother, Mateshwari Devi, instead of panicking or crying, young Govinda bit into the cobra’s head, fatally injuring it.
“We saw the snake wrapped around his hand, and he had its head in his mouth. We quickly separated them,” Devi recounted.
Shortly after the encounter, the child lost consciousness—likely due to exposure to venom through his mouth.He was rushed to a local health facility and later transferred to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Bettiah for specialized care.
There, Dr. Saurab Kumar, a pediatrician, described the case as highly unusual and unprecedented.
“His face and mouth were swollen, showing signs of a venom reaction,” Dr. Kumar said. “But the venom didn’t enter his bloodstream, which could have been deadly.”Doctors administered anti-allergy medication and closely monitored the boy for 48 hours.
With no further symptoms emerging, he was discharged in stable condition.The cobra reportedly died on the spot due to the trauma from the child’s bite.
Medical experts called the survival extraordinary, noting that while cobra venom is lethal when injected into the bloodstream, oral ingestion poses less danger if not absorbed internally.
Govinda is now recovering at home. His encounter has stunned doctors and villagers alike, turning the brave toddler into an unlikely local legend.
