BREAKING: Dino Melaye Resigns from PDP

Former senator and 2023 Kogi State governorship candidate, Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blaming the party’s failure to rescue Nigeria from what he called “the prevailing political cankerworms.”

In a resignation letter dated July 30 and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 1 in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye declared his immediate exit from the party and all its associated activities.

“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation,” Melaye wrote.

He stated that after careful reflection on the party’s current state, he could no longer, “in good conscience,” continue to be involved in its affairs or promote its agenda.

Melaye, a close associate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—who also left the PDP earlier this month—has yet to reveal his next political step.

However, both men are widely expected to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
