BREAKING: President Tinubu Extends Customs Boss Adeniyi’s Tenure

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of tenure for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.

Adeniyi, whose term was initially set to expire on August 31, 2025, will now remain in office for an additional year, the Presidency announced on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the extension is aimed at allowing the Customs boss to consolidate key reforms and complete major initiatives of the current administration.

“These include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the execution of Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol,” the statement noted.

President Tinubu commended Adeniyi’s leadership and dedication to national service, expressing confidence that the extension would further empower the NCS to meet its core mandates of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.

Adeniyi was appointed Comptroller-General of Customs in 2023.
