The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has responded to recent remarks downplaying its political relevance, warning the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) not to underestimate its growing influence.
In an interview with Punch, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi dismissed the notion that the party lacks strength simply because it currently has no state governors, saying such assumptions are short-sighted.
“Let them keep underrating us — it works in our favor,” Abdullahi said. “When we started, they said the party wouldn’t survive. When we announced our coalition, they gave us six months. Yet, here we are. It’s better they continue underestimating us.”He emphasized that the ADC is focused on more than just winning elections.
“We’re not just in this for power in 2027. Our mission goes far beyond that. We are committed to building a strong, functional nation. We understand the challenges ahead and we take them seriously.”Abdullahi also revealed that the party’s ranks are steadily growing, even before launching a full-scale membership drive.
“Even before rolling out our structured campaign, we’ve seen a steady stream of Nigerians joining the ADC. Once we activate our grassroots structures at the state level, membership will increase rapidly,” he noted.Highlighting the party’s inclusive nature, Abdullahi welcomed Nigerians from all political backgrounds.“
Whether you’re from PDP, APC, NNPP, or any other party, you’re welcome in the ADC. We’re a coalition and our doors are open — as long as new members are willing to uphold the principles and values of the party.”
He concluded by stating that the ADC is now the only credible alternative for Nigerians who are disillusioned with the current state of governance.
