Man in Military Uniform Steals Okada in Lagos, Abandons It During Police Chase

A Lagos-based commercial motorcyclist, simply identified as Henry, has narrated a chilling encounter with a suspected thief dressed in military uniform who made away with his motorcycle after luring him with a fake N8,000 ride deal.

According to Henry, the incident happened during a day-long trip around Lagos, which ended near Command Road, Ayobo. Late that night, the suspect asked Henry to stop at a POS outlet on Iyana Iba New Road, pretending he wanted to withdraw cash.

“As soon as I handed the card to the POS operator, he jumped on my bike and sped off,” Henry said.

In a twist of fate, Henry spotted the suspect a few days later, riding the stolen bike near First Gate, Igbo–Elerin, along the LASU–Iyana Iba Road.

He quickly alerted a Rapid Response Squad (RRS) patrol team in the area. Upon noticing the officers, the suspect — still dressed in military fatigues — abandoned the motorcycle and fled the scene.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and praised the quick action of the RRS team.

“The motorcycle has been returned to the rightful owner, and a manhunt is ongoing to arrest the suspect,” Hundeyin said, assuring that justice will be served.

This case adds to a rising wave of crimes in Lagos involving impostors in military uniforms, prompting increased security surveillance and public caution across the state.
