The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that popular Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as KWAM 1, was involved in a security breach at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The incident, which occurred on August 5, 2025, led to the suspension of two pilots from ValueJet.
FAAN made this disclosure following the circulation of a viral video showing KWAM 1 narrowly escaping being struck by a ValueJet aircraft during boarding procedures.
In an official statement released on August 6, FAAN explained that the altercation began when aviation security personnel attempted to inspect a flask in the singer’s possession. KWAM 1 allegedly refused to comply, instead spilling the contents—later confirmed to be alcohol—on a security officer.
Despite being informed of aviation regulations that prohibit passengers from carrying liquid substances over 100ml unless medically necessary and declared, KWAM 1 reportedly insisted on taking the substance onboard ValueJet flight VK 201 to Lagos. This contravenes Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and international aviation standards under ICAO Annex 17.
FAAN further stated that after being asked to step aside for clarification, KWAM 1 declined, escalating the situation. The flight captain intervened but was met with similar resistance. Once all passengers had boarded, the captain ordered the aircraft doors to be closed.
However, KWAM 1 reportedly moved to the front of the plane and refused to disembark, prompting aviation security to remove him for further questioning. He was later released.
In addition to the passenger’s violation, FAAN confirmed that the ValueJet pilots began departure procedures from the designated bay without securing the mandatory pre-departure clearance, violating essential safety protocols.
The agency has reiterated its commitment to upholding aviation safety and warned that no individual, regardless of status, is above the law. A full investigation is currently underway, and appropriate sanctions will be applied to all parties found culpable.
