Peter Obi Unlikely to Return to PDP – Umar Sani

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, says 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is unlikely to rejoin the PDP, claiming Obi is “married to” the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking on ARISE Television’s The Morning Show on Friday, Sani noted that Obi recently urged his supporters to back an ADC candidate in a by-election, despite still being in the Labour Party. The LP has since asked its members to disregard the directive.

“This has shown that Peter Obi is married to the ADC, and he is most unlikely to defect to the PDP. Although he has hinted that the PDP has approached him,” Sani said.

He dismissed speculation about Obi or former President Goodluck Jonathan returning to the PDP, describing it as mere conjecture. According to Sani, the party is working to attract capable figures to revive its “comatose” state, especially after losing two governors to the APC and facing the unresolved “Wike factor.”

“No political party can survive without high-profile personalities,” he added.
