Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has sparked debate after asserting that it is now “too late” for Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, to ever emerge as Nigeria’s president.
Adeyanju made this claim in a post via his X handle, arguing that Obi’s political chances have already diminished beyond repair. He further stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar still stands a better chance at attaining the presidency than Obi.
According to him, even if Obi’s supporters, popularly known as the Obidients, changed their strategy, abandoned what he called “political extremism,” and refrained from online insults, it would still not improve Obi’s chances.
“Even if Obidients change strategy and become born again, stop political extremism and insulting people online, their candidate cannot be president of Nigeria. It’s too late already. Even Atiku has a better chance at the presidency than Obi. That’s how bad his chances are,” Adeyanju wrote.
Peter Obi Reacts to FG’s ₦142bn Bus Terminal Project
Meanwhile, Peter Obi has strongly criticised the federal government’s recent approval of a ₦142 billion plan to construct bus terminals across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
The former Anambra governor described the move as a misplaced priority, stressing that such huge funds could be better invested in sectors that directly impact the lives of citizens.
Obi argued that in a country battling widespread poverty, crumbling infrastructure, and a struggling economy, such expenditure was not only wasteful but also a “tragic irony.”
He urged the federal government to prioritize judicious allocation of scarce resources, warning that misplaced spending could determine the success or failure of governance.
The development comes after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) recently approved multiple major projects, including the bus terminals, despite criticisms over Nigeria’s current fiscal challenges.
