The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully arrested a notorious kidnapper and armed robbery kingpin, Mohammed Bammi, widely known as Zomo. He was captured in Doma Local Government Area after weeks of manhunt.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
According to him, Zomo had earlier escaped during an operation in which several of his gang members were arrested. However, he was eventually tracked down and apprehended during a clearance operation at Doka Forest.
“In a desperate bid to evade capture, he pulled a knife to attack the officers but was swiftly overpowered and arrested,” Nansel explained.
Gang Hideout Discovered
Following his arrest, Zomo led police detectives to the gang’s hideout in Alagye village, where security operatives recovered a cache of weapons and uniforms.
Items recovered include:
One pump-action rifle (Breech No. P331551)
One locally made AK-47 rifle with magazine
Two live ammunition and five cartridges
A knife and a rope
Two Tecno mobile phones
A pair of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) uniforms
Five More Suspects Nabbed
In a separate sting operation at Gidan Taku village in Awe Local Government Area, operatives also arrested five members of a 10-man kidnap syndicate.
Those arrested are:
Michael Ato
Richard Ato
Alom Bernard
Hangior Ato
Jacob Hunde (a.k.a. Okocha)
The suspects were linked to the abduction of a woman, Blessing John, and were found in possession of two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and one live ammunition.
Further investigations revealed that the same gang was responsible for the abduction of Blessing’s husband, John Ada Kuje, in April 2024, during which ransom was collected before he was released.
Next Steps
All suspects are now in custody at the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, commended the operatives for the breakthrough, urging them to keep the pressure on criminal gangs.
“We must intensify the heat on criminals until Nasarawa is completely free of kidnappers and armed robbers,” he charged.
