2027 Presidency: Atiku May Seek ADC Ticket, PDP Could Be Compelled to Back Him – Sambo

The Director of News and Politics at Arise Television, Sumner Sambo, has revealed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is working on a plan to offer its 2027 presidential ticket to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Sambo made this disclosure on Monday during The Morning Show, noting that conversations within political circles suggest that if Atiku secures the ADC platform and gains traction, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) might have no choice but to support his bid.

“People are saying that if Atiku gets the ADC ticket and things go very well for him, then the PDP, in one way or the other, may be forced to back his presidential ambition,” Sambo explained.

However, he pointed out challenges facing the ADC, particularly the issue of leadership recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The major problem of the ADC right now is that INEC has not even listed David Mark as the national chairman of the party, and Atiku himself has not picked up the party’s membership form,” Sambo said.

The development comes shortly after Atiku reaffirmed his intention to contest the 2027 general elections. Speaking through his 2023 campaign spokesperson, Tunde Olusunle, the former Vice President insisted that he would run again, stressing that Nigeria “needs to be rescued from the Intensive Care Unit” under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
