The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally presented a Certificate of Return to Kamilu Sa’idu, who emerged victorious in the Kaura Namoda South State Constituency by-election in Zamfara State.
The presentation took place on Monday at INEC’s state office in Gusau, following a rerun conducted last Thursday across five polling units in two registration areas.
Earlier, INEC had declared the August 16 by-election in 109 polling units within six registration areas of Kaura Namoda Local Government inconclusive due to reports of irregularities in certain voting centres.
Speaking during the presentation, Zamfara State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Mahammud Isah, emphasized that the process reflected the values of democracy.
“It was a free, fair, and credible election. I commend all stakeholders for ensuring its success and for upholding democracy,” he said.
Dr. Isah congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker-elect, urging him to prioritize meaningful development for his constituents.
In his reaction, the Zamfara APC Chairman, Alhaji Danfulani Maikatako, expressed satisfaction with INEC and security operatives, praising their role in the peaceful conduct of both the initial election and the rerun.
According to him, the victory is a testament to APC’s popularity in the state:
“This win shows the acceptance of our party in Zamfara. In 2027, APC will reclaim its stolen mandate. Even in 2023, it was our supporters who mistakenly voted PDP into power due to internal misunderstandings.”
Maikatako assured members that the party would resolve internal disputes ahead of future elections.
On his part, Kamilu Sa’idu expressed gratitude to party leaders and supporters for their confidence in him, promising to use his legislative role to advance the progress of Kaura Namoda South and Zamfara State at large.
“I promise to use my experience to bring meaningful development to my constituency and the entire state,” he pledged.
