Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has urged citizens to actively participate in shaping the state’s 2026 budget by providing feedback on their needs and priorities.
Speaking at a citizens’ engagement session in Bode Saadu, Moro Local Government Area, Abdulrazaq said public input was critical for effective governance and equitable resource allocation.
“A budget is a statement of intent which reflects the direction of government in a financial year. We have made it a duty to constantly harvest the views of the public to know what affects them and how resources should be allocated,” he said.
The session, organised by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, brought together civil society organisations, NGOs, the private sector, traditional rulers, and community members.
Commissioner for Planning, Dr Mary Arinde, described the consultation as a “compelling necessity” to promote accountability and strengthen citizen participation in governance.
Traditional rulers and community leaders also made demands, including more township roads, rehabilitation of the Shao-Sobi water project, and the establishment of a School of Nursing in Jebba.
The Ohoro of Shao, Oba Obalowu Atolagbe, praised the governor’s efforts in infrastructure, gender balance, and human capital development, while Prince Olatunji Adebara of Jebba called for more healthcare facilities.
Director of Planning, Samsudeen Aregbe, presented a review of the 2024 and 2025 budget performance, which he said recorded significant achievements.
Governor Abdulrazaq commended participants for their commitment, stressing that their support motivates his administration to do more.
