Dutch football legend, Ruud Gullit, has insisted that the real problem at Manchester United lies within the club’s structure and management, not the players.
Speaking on Ziggo Sport’s Rondo show, Gullit stressed that United’s decline began after the exit of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who had significant control over almost every aspect of the club.
The Red Devils were knocked out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday after a shock defeat to Grimsby Town, adding to their recent struggles. Gullit noted that many former United players have gone on to perform brilliantly at other clubs, citing Scott McTominay (Napoli), Marcus Rashford (Aston Villa, Barcelona), and Antony (Real Betis) as examples.
“Everyone who leaves Manchester United suddenly plays great at their new club. Manchester United is the problem, 100%,” Gullit said.
He emphasized that while managers and players have come and gone, the club’s deeper issues remain unresolved, leaving new arrivals struggling to make an impact at Old Trafford.
United finished last season in 15th place in the Premier League, their lowest-ever finish, with even Cristiano Ronaldo previously criticizing the club’s decline after Ferguson’s era.
Ruben Amorim’s side will now turn their attention to their upcoming Premier League clash with Burnley this weekend.
